I am Ramya Harini, and I have been teaching Carnatic vocal classes around Chicagoland for more than 5 years.
I was introduced to Carnatic music by my mother and guru, Smt. Varalakshmi Kapila. She has trained over 3,000 students in the past 35 years through her own music school - Ramya Raaga Tarangini.
Music has always been my passion since I began my formal music lessons at the age of 8. I received my music degrees from reputed music institutions such as Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad, and Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Navi Mumbai. I also hold a formal degree in Carnatic Violin.
In India, I have performed concerts at various prestigious venues including Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (Tirupati), Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham affiliated temples (Basara, Sringeri), Annamacharya Bhavana Vahini, Ravindra Bharathi, and Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha (Hyderabad). In the last 5 years, my students and I have performed at various Chicago associations such as TANA, NATS, CHITA, TAGC, CAA, and at Chinmaya Mission Yamunotri, Aurora, and Lemont temples.
I love teaching music and sharing my knowledge. I particularly enjoy working with kids and young adults. I am excited to continue exploring and growing my passion for music.
